New Brand: Meet Soultree, our first Ayurvedic beauty brand at Dilli Grey

This autumn we have launched a small edit of Ayurvedic skincare at Dilli Grey from the incredible Indian brand, Soul Tree. This week on the journal we will explain why, after 2 years of research, we decided Soul Tree was the best fit for our 'ethical, beautiful, handmade' ethos - plus share with you a bit more about each of the products on offer:

Compared to five years ago, when I would bring back suitcases stuffed with hand-block printed quilts for friends while I was on buying trips to India in my previous career, and finally took the plunge to launch Dilli Grey after thinking 'I could make a business out of this'.... for the last two years - it's been all about skincare.

Each time I have visited our artisans in Jaipur the Dilli Grey team has sent me with a longer and longer list of Ayurvedic skincare to bring back with me. Marketing Manager, Lydia Mansi and I have had such fun seeking out new brands to try, in the hope that we'd find one we felt was a perfect fit for Dilli Grey.

And I'm so excited to say, we have.

Soul Tree immediately felt like 'the one', we picked up a few lines on a whim, bought them back to the UK to trial and learn more about the ethics and background of the brand. It was quickly evident that we loved the products, the packaging and the price-points, but it was the heart of the brand that sealed the deal.

Vishal Bhandari started Soul Tree in the early 2000s, with the aim to launch a brand that would leave a 'good impact on the world'. He travelled to the Himalayas, to Uttarakhand to spend time with NGOs and farmers there to learn more about organic farming practices and the Ayurvedic herbs that they were growing.

He wanted to work with them to provide a fair and viable outlet for their crops, yet being a wholesaler for their produce was never enough and soon the idea for a small range of natural Ayurvedic products, Soul Tree, was born - designed to showcase the incredible and powerful Ayurvedic herbs and raw ingredients Vishal had access to through his trusted farmer and NGO network.

After 3 years in the lab - with one chemist and one 70-year-old Ayurvedic Doctor formulating scientifically backed, ancient medicinal products - a range of just five products finally launched and has been growing every since, with 60 products now available across haircare, bodycare and make-up.

Here are 5 reasons why we love and stock Soul Tree:

The botanicals used are either organic or harvested without chemical contamination from wild forests.

The ingredients used are collected through NGOs who work with local farmers and communities. Ethical harvesting practices are used to encourage forest regeneration, and to prevent exploitation.

All Soul Tree products are free from petroleum-based products, SLS/SLES, silicones, parabens, DEA/TEA, phenoxyethanols, artificial fragrances and colours.

The active botanical extracts that enrich the Soul Tree formulas are made in-house in a true Ayurvedic tradition to ensure purity and therapeutic levels of efficacy.

Soul Tree are the only brand in India formally certified, annually, by the reputed European Certification Agency BDIH of Germany and does not test on animals.
