Vintage Gudri kantha heirloom quilt
£250.00 GBP £0.00 GBP
The rarest of pieces, this dowry quilt would have taken a mother and daughter a year or more to make. A symbol of their bond, as a young woman left her family home to start her own. The quilt is a stunning patchwork, created from left over fabrics the family would have had around the home, creating a personal tapestry of textiles. The piece originates from Bangladesh and is around 60-70 years old. It is embellished with very fine stitching and a type of quilting called 'gudri kantha'. It would have been placed on a guest's bed as an honour, to welcome people into their home.
Size: approximately a UK double.
We work with trusted antiques dealers who specialise in sourced vintage textiles on our behalf. As with all our pieces, these are vintage fabrics and we recommend consulting a professional cleaner to discuss their care recommendations for the fabric.
