City print series: Jodphur pink
This week's City print story is less about the 'Jodphur' in the name and more about the pink. Rani pink was one of the first colours that made me fall in love with India - its hue is so much that is evocative of India to me... the pigments at Holi, the saris, the architecture, flower garlands... it's the happiest colour and on a personal note, reminds me of how Dilli Grey first started...
On my frequent buying trips to India, friends would always ask me to bring back quilts from my 'special shop' in Rajhasthan - they had all fallen in love with this gorgeous pop of pink, so I began bringing back 1, then 2... and the rest is history. It's the original Dilli Grey product that we still sell to this day.
When it came to designing our high summer collection, I couldn't not include a shot of pink. All our hand-block prints are laid out in the sun to dry and especially with the Rani Pink, it gives it a beautiful soft, rather than neon, tone. It's romantic, feminine (without being overly girly) and looks beautiful against tanned skin.
Our Jodphur Blue has been our stand-out best-selling print since we launched it, so we decided to use the heritage paisley print and give it a summer makeover - it's available in pj trousers and cami vest, oversized boyfriend shirt and in the Mini Dilli collection, in a girl's top and summer dress, too.
