This winter feels quite personal

Earlier this year, I asked you what you really wanted from Dilli Grey for autumn and winter. And I listened.

You told me you wanted more beautiful blouses, more embroidery, knitwear, texture and detail. Pieces that still felt unmistakably Dilli Grey, but would take you through the colder months.

I’ve thought about those answers a lot while working on this collection. When choosing a fabric, looking at a sample or deciding which pieces to develop, I’ve kept coming back to what you told me you would love to wear.

So when I say you helped design this collection, I really mean it.

Finding our way into winter

This collection is our biggest commitment to winter for a few years. That feels exciting, and a little nerve-racking too.

I’ve been taking things carefully. Choosing where to put our energy, what to develop and how much to take on as a small independent brand.

There’s so much of yourself in a collection when you’ve been involved in every decision, right down to the colour of a thread or where a neckline sits. But your feedback gave me the confidence to do more. You wanted to keep wearing Dilli Grey beyond the summer, and I wanted to make that easier. To bring the colour, prints and details you love into a wardrobe that works when the weather turns.

From your answers to the fitting room

Over the last few months, I’ve been drawing, choosing colours, developing prints and working with our suppliers in India. Then come the samples, the fittings, the refittings and all those little changes that can make such a difference.

A neckline that needs adjusting. A sleeve that isn’t quite right. Another row of border at a hem. The particular shade that brings an embroidery to life.

These are the decisions you don’t always see in the finished photographs, but they’re such a big part of making clothes feel right.

And this season, there is so much detail to look forward to. Rich berries and teal, touches of ochre and gold, embroidery, soft cord and velvet. There are full skirts, blouses to fall in love with and jackets that make an outfit. Alongside them, our first knitwear collection brings a new softness and another way to wear it all.

A little knit with a lot to do

The cardigans are a good example of how I’ve approached this season.

I wanted a really lovely everyday knit. Something you could reach for with jeans, wear buttoned up over a pretty cami, or put with one of our prints and feel instantly dressed.

I chose a slimmer shape through the body and sleeves because I love that balance with a generous, swishy skirt or a wide-leg trouser. Our Dakota skirt will be arriving soon, and I can’t wait to show you the two together.

The wool cashmere knit is soft, fine and gently stretchy, finished with natural coconut buttons. There are four colours: Tulsi Green, blue, taupe and burgundy. Each brings something different to the collection, whether you love a rich colour or tend to reach for a softer neutral.

And you can start wearing them now. September has kept us guessing, with warm afternoons and cooler mornings. A cardigan over a block-print sundress lets you carry on wearing a favourite, while a fine knit over a T-shirt is an easy answer to those days when the weather can’t make up its mind.

A winter wardrobe, one lovely piece at a time

I’m sharing this collection gradually, in small drops over the coming weeks. The scarves and knitwear are here, with more prints, embroidery and layers still to come.

I like the idea of giving each arrival its own moment. Time to show you the details, tell you a little about how it came together and share how I’d wear it with pieces you might already own.

There is plenty I’m still keeping under wraps, but I hope this gives you a feeling for what’s ahead.
