Why we only use natural fibres at Dilli Grey
There’s been a huge shift over the last few years towards “clean beauty”.
People are reading ingredient labels more carefully, becoming more conscious about what they put onto their skin, and thinking more deeply about wellness in everyday life.
But strangely, we rarely talk about the fabrics we wear all day long.
And when you think about it, clothing sits against our skin for far longer than most beauty products ever do.
As the weather begins to warm up here in London, I’ve found myself thinking again about why natural fibres have always been such an important part of Dilli Grey, not just from a sustainability perspective, but from a comfort and wellbeing perspective too.
What We Wear Affects How We Feel

Most of us instinctively know the difference the moment we put something on.
Some fabrics immediately feel cool, soft and breathable. Others can feel hot, static, clingy or uncomfortable within minutes, especially during warmer weather or when travelling.
That’s because fabric composition genuinely changes how clothing behaves against the body. Natural fibres like organic cotton allow air to circulate more freely and tend to absorb moisture more comfortably, which is one of the reasons they feel so much better to wear in heat.
Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, are often derived from petroleum-based plastics and can trap heat against the skin.
In a world increasingly dominated by fast fashion and polyester blends, truly natural clothing has quietly become much harder to find.
Why We Choose Organic Cotton

At Dilli Grey, organic cotton has been at the heart of our collections for years.
We use it across our dresses, sleepwear and block printed pieces because it has a softness and breathability that simply feels different when worn.
Our lightweight organic cotton voile dresses are designed to move easily through summer - airy enough for hot days, soft enough for everyday wear, and comfortable enough to live in from morning through to evening.
We also line many of our dresses in fine mul mul cotton because we believe the inside of a garment matters just as much as the outside.
These details often cost more to produce, but they completely change how a piece feels on the body.
And for us, that feeling matters.
Natural Fibres and Wellbeing

We’re not interested in fear-based messaging around clothing.
But we do think there’s something worth paying attention to in the wider conversation around conscious living.
People are becoming more thoughtful about food ingredients, skincare formulations, home fragrance and even cleaning products, all because we understand that our environment affects how we feel physically and mentally.
Clothing deserves to be part of that conversation too.
The fabrics we wear every day influence comfort, temperature, ease of movement and sensory experience in ways we often underestimate.
There’s a reason people reach for soft cotton nightwear after a long day.
There’s a reason linen and cotton become wardrobe staples in summer.
There’s a reason synthetic occasionwear often comes off the moment we get home.
Our bodies notice the difference even when we aren’t consciously thinking about it.
Slow Fashion Starts With Better Fabrics

For us, choosing natural fibres has never been about following trends.
It’s part of a much slower, more considered approach to fashion, creating pieces designed to be worn repeatedly, loved for years, and enjoyed not just visually but physically too.
Many of our garments are hand block printed by artisans in Jaipur using traditional techniques that celebrate craftsmanship and small-batch production. For added comfort and peace of mind, we also only ever use safe azo-free organic dyes in all of our production.
The beauty of these pieces comes not only from the prints and colours, but from the tactile quality of the fabrics themselves, soft organic cottons that become even more beautiful with wear.
We’ve always believed clothing should feel joyful, easy and comforting to wear.
Not restrictive.
Not disposable.
Never synthetic
Just beautifully made pieces that work with real life.
Why It Matters More In Summer

As temperatures rise, fabric choice becomes even more noticeable.
Breathable natural fibres can help clothing feel lighter, cooler and more comfortable throughout the day, particularly when travelling, commuting or spending time outdoors.
That’s one of the reasons summer dressing has always been such an important category for us at Dilli Grey.
From airy block printed maxi dresses to soft organic cotton nighties and relaxed sleepwear, our collections are designed with comfort and ease in mind first.
Because ultimately, the pieces we reach for most are usually the ones that make us feel good physically as well as emotionally and sometimes, that starts with something as simple as the fabric touching your skin.
Enjoy wafting and luxuriating in your Dilli Grey and rest easy knowing that your skin will thank you for it.
