Eco focus - reworking our remnants

As part of our Sustainability project at Dilli Grey, we have been working for the last year to develop new products that use up the hand-block printed fabric remnants from our best-selling pyjamas and quilts.

Not only does it allow us to further reduce our manufacturing impact, but it also means that customers are able to buy matching accessories, or smaller gifts in our signature hand-block print fabrics.

Here are just some of the products and ways we are using our remnants:

Journals

Our journals are entirely made from remnants of the fashion industry - even down to the paper which is created using scraps of cotton (read about the process here) - we then cover the cotton paper journals with our seasonal hand-block prints, finished with a traditional Indian cotton cord tie.

Kantha quilts

Our kantha quilts are a beautiful hand-stitched collage of some of our favourite hand-block prints. They are a handmade labour of love. Using off-cuts from our large cotton quilts, they are patchworked together, then overstitched by hand using a traditional kantha quilting technique. It's a beautiful way of marrying a range of prints and colours into one heirloom textile.

Washbags

A new addition this summer, our hand-block printed washbags are a spin off from our larger quilted weekend bags. We wanted to create something that used up any waste from the weekend bags and would be the perfect companion - and so the new washbags were born! Practically lined in waterproof material, they're a great boxy shape so nothing is lost at the bottom!

Slip bags for quilts
All our large hand-block printed quilts come with drawstring slip bags, not only does it use up leftover fabric but it's a great, compact way of storing them away from dust.

Stuffing for pouffes and footstools
Off-cuts and remnants are often used to fill and stuff pouffes and footstools, ensure no scraps go to waste. We have an exciting new collection of home furnishings, including new pouffe and cushion designs arriving this autumn.

Made into paper
Besides our journals, all our paperbags and paper products are made from cotton paper - handmade using remnants from the fashion industry.
